Adam

ADAM BOYLSTON

Adam was the lead guitarist for the band. A really angry guy. But he loves his girlfriend very much so he isn't angry all the time. He just likes to fight. He'd trap Jeff in one corner of a room at a party and just yell and yell. Jeff said it was cause he needed a friend. That I guess makes sense. Adam grew up in the country, too, just like Jeff. Up in Vermont, or something. But unlike Jeff, he went to the city fast. He was in Boston for a while, playing at clubs. He liked it there.

He did lots of music before he joined up with Poor Richard. Session work for a while, on a few albums, and a few bands that went nowhere. But he didn't get along that well with people in the record business. (He always wanted to argue with everybody -- and probably still does!) When he met Jeff things really took off for him.

Jeff said Adam learned how to play by hanging out with musicians who knew more about music than he did. That's one thing Jeff said he always regretted: that his own training was more "academic" than "practical."

Madison

MADISON ROSE CONWAY

She is SO pretty.  I think she had a crush on Jeff.  But by the time everything was over, she had already met the guy she wanted to be with.  Everybody loves her, boys, girls, it's too much! But she can sing, too.  She's like this voice of an angel or something.  A sad angel.

She's from down south, but no one knows exactly where.  She never talked much about where she was from.  Lyn once said to me that she had a rough childhood. But that's all I know.

One time I was at her place, for a party, and I was in her bedroom, I found a box of ribbons from State Fairs.  For singing.  When she must have been a little girl.  I think she's been singing since she was a baby.  Sometimes I got the feeling singing was the only time she was happy.

I know Jeff and Madison Rose almost got together before I moved out to Seattle. But that ended when I came out to Jeff.

Jeff JEFF RANDOLPH

Jeff is the most wonderful guy ever.  He's wonderful and sensitive and a genius and I love him.  He's from Virginia.  That's where we grew up together.  His family is all there and they were sad when he left.  He was writing all the time growing up and everyone thought he would be a poet.  But now he's a wonderful song writer.  We're going to have a baby soon.  I'm the happiest person ever.

Jeff had trouble going to school, mostly cutting and writing and reading.  He said, "What I need to learn I can learn by dreaming about the way things used to be and how they could be."

He got a state prize back in Virginia for his writing and poetry.  He studies music with private instructors his mom hired for him.
Sam SAM FIFIELD

Sam is out of Boston, like Abigail and Adam.  He used to have real trouble with drugs, but he cleaned himself up.

Sam's bio really didn't say much about him.  I know he was drumming as a kid.  I know he ran away from home.  I know he used to be crazy.  I know he's a father now and really happy.
Abigail

ABIGAIL QUINCY

Abigail is Adam's girlfriend.  She's nice.  But kind of stuck up.  Not mean.  But she's one of those people who KNOWS a lot.  But she's nice.  I know she makes Adam happy.  When she's around he doesn't argue as much.

She studied ballet and classical music, which makes her kind of weird for a rock and roll chick, I guess.  But everybody said that when she played, it was like all her training paid off... Jeff said Abigail always made the music stronger with her questions and her playing.  She wanted it to be strong and structured, he said.  And it was better because it was.

She was from Boston.  That's where she met Adam.  They tried dating for a while, but nothing came of it.  Then they met again in Seattle when she moved out to get involved with the music scene.  Her parents didn't like her leaving for rock and roll.  But she said, "Making is Making.  This is what I do."

I know Jeff really liked her.  But not the way some people said.
